MERIDIAN, Miss.–Having sex with an inmate is the charge against Autumn Wedgeworth, a corrections officer at East Miss. Correctional Facility in Lauderdale County. She was arrested Thursday after the relationship was uncovered.

Exactly how the relationship was found out is not clear, but it was Management and Training Corp. officials who brought it to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Dept.

East Mississippi Correctional is a privately-run prison, operated by Management and Training Corp. There have been numerous complaints about conditions there and a lawsuit has been filed by the Southern Poverty Law Center on behalf of the inmates.

Wedgeworth was released on a $10,000 bond and her case now goes to the Lauderdale County grand jury.

Sex with an inmate by a corrections officer is a felony. Wedgeworth was charged with sexual battery.
