Shooting Death of a Mom and Half-Brother: Former Deputy Takes Leave, Heads to Prison

WATER VALLEY, Miss.–Pleading guilty to shooting and killing his mother and half-brother in November 2013, Regis Mister will serve 48 years in prison. Mister got that sentence this week, reported the Oxford Eagle.

Dr. Carol Lavette Gary and her son “PJ”, 12, were found shot in their Water Valley home.

In March 2014, Mister was indicted by the Yalobusha County grand jury on murder charges. Tuesday, Mister pleaded guilty to second degree murder in each of the killings and got 40 years. The judge suspended 16 years on each count.

But, Mister was ordered to serve his sentences consecutively, which means one right after the other. So, effectively the sentence was 48 years.
