Shot in the Head, Six-Year-Old Girl Fights for Life

VICKSBURG, Miss.–Six-year-old Jamerica Ragsdale was fighting to stay alive this morning at UMMC in Jackson after being shot in the head with a .22 caliber pistol Tuesday. A 16-year-old family friend, who may be the boyfriend of someone living in the house, was charged with being a minor in possession of a handgun, according to the Warren County sheriff.

The family has told several news outlets that the girl was shot through a wall when the gun went off twice about 11 a.m. She was only hit once.

The family told WJTV that Ragsdale’s condition was not expected to improve and that she was on life support.

Ragsdale’s family was staying at the home because theirs had burned up earlier this year and they were waiting to move to their new house.
