Shot After a School Ruckus: 15-Year-Old Girl Dies at the Hospital

JACKSON, Miss.–Mississippi’s capital city can mark down another murder for the year. This time it’s a 15-year-old girl, a freshman at a local high school.

Destinee Ford was shot right outside of Wingfield High School Thursday just before 4 o’clock. She died at the hospital later, from a gunshot to the chest.

Police are now trying to find out who pulled the trigger. Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance told media there was a big fight near the campus before the shooting.

“There was a large fight,” he said, “involving several students, some which, I am told, are Wingfield students.”

Police and neighbors were looking for bullet holds and shell casings after the shooting.

Vance said they had begun interviewing persons of interest.

“As far as my feelings, I’m very sad right now. It’s just a commentary on how immoral some people are,” said Vance at a news conference at the scene.

Jackson has frequently been rated as one of America’s most dangerous cities, with murders being one of the biggest problems.

The capital city played host to a quadruple murder earlier this fall and was where one member of an entire family that was slain was killed.
