Shrimp season gets extension

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is extending shrimping season until 6 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2019.

This applies to Mississippi territorial waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel. Waters north of the ICW remain closed. Waters east of the Gulfport Ship Channel and south of the ICW are open to shrimping year-round.

MDMR is conducting routine shrimp sampling, and if there is an indication that large numbers of juvenile brown shrimp have moved into this area, shrimp season may be closed earlier than 6 a.m. on May 10.

For more information, call the toll-free Shrimp Information Hotline at 1-866-WE-TRAWL (938-7295).
