OXFORD, Miss–City of Oxford Emergency Manager Jimmy Allgood confirms a sinkhole between Jackson Avenue and Coliseum Drive on Highway 6 eastbound.
MDOT is currently on the scene assessing the damage. The sinkhole is an estimated 18 feet in diameter and about 10-12 feet deep in the middle of the road. It’s hampering traffic in both lanes. Allgood urges drivers to take a different route.
Before emergency crews arrived at the scene, drivers were stopping traffic.
“If someone had crashed, it would have been fatal, no doubt about that,” says Allgood.
