A year-long investigation into a counterfeit money scheme has resulted in six arrests in Wayne County.

Sheriff Jody Ashley with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Chris Bishop, Ashley Dubose, and Richard Cochran have been arrested in Mississippi and three others have been arrested out of state. Kimberly Hutchinson, Richard Crabtree and Tyler Perry have been detained and will be transported back to Mississippi to face charges.

Sheriff Ashley said that this issue has existed in both the city and county for a long time and they brought in the Secret Service to assist in the investigation. While he could not provide an exact dollar amount of how widespread the counterfeiting operation was, Ashley stated that more than half of the businesses in the area had been affected.

“It means a lot to get them off of the streets. We’re moving forward in Wayne County, making it a safer & better place to live. I appreciate the U.S. Secret Service coming to assist us with this investigation,” Ashley stated.

The investigation remains ongoing, and Ashley said that more arrests and indictments could be on the way.
