BILOXI, Miss.–Lots of serious anglers are congregating on the Mississippi Gulf Coast this week in hopes of landing a championship on the Southern Kingfish Association Pro Tour.
This isn’t a run-of-the-mill tournament for the weekend angler according to Larry Sablich the Port Division Manger for Biloxi.
“We’re supposed to have at least 200 boats this year,” he said.
They’ll have two days to weight-in two kingfish. They can either weigh-in two on the first day, two on the second day, or split it up.
When these teams of around four people travel they don’t do it lightly and the local economy notices.
“This tournament brings lots and lots of people,” Sablich said. “It fills the hotel rooms and the casinos love it.”
He pointed out families usually travel with team members and their favorite place to stay is the casinos because they can walk directly to their boats each day.
