Southern Miss Removes State Flag from Campus

HATTIESBURG, MISS– The flag representing the state of Mississippi, which features the confederate stars and bars, is no longer flying on the Southern Miss campus.

President Rodney Bennett ordered that the flag come down earlier today, reports WDAM. A statement is expected by the University this afternoon.

The flag is lowered at Southern Miss, as well as Ole Miss, Jackson State, Alcorn State, and Mississippi Valley State.

Protesters from both sides of the issue were present.
