Long Beach, Miss— It’s been three weeks since Point Sur left San Jose, California, but now it is finally in the hands of Southern Miss researchers.
Point Sur arrived at the Port of Gulfport Sunday afternoon. It will be used to explore the Gulf of Mexico, including further research on the BP oil spill of 2010, as well as other research projects and educational trips.
Point Sur will be ready to go out for research on April 19th, and will be able to accommodate right at 40 researchers.
A formal public celebration for the vessel is set for Friday, April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Port of Gulfport.
