HATTIESBURG, Miss.–Holden Hughes, 23, just recently returned from serving for a year in Afghanistan as part of the military and was stationed at Camp Shelby when he died early Sunday. While he survived for a year in dangerous conditions, constantly threatened by terrorists and road-side bombs, what he did not survive was an attack outside Benny’s Boom Boom Room in Hattiesburg.

few details about the stabbing were released. What is known so far is that the fight was at about 12:45 Sunday morning. Hughes was stabbed multiple times and died at a local hospital.

Cops took two Columbia, Miss. residents into custody and charged them with murder. They are 31-year-old Derrick Valdez and 23-year-old Aaron Dement. Media in Hattiesburg report the two were arrested without a fight.

Hughes’ Facebook page shows he was from Brandon and served in the Army. His last post was April 29.
