State Auditor Demanding Money Back from Union Co. Coroner

UNION COUNTY, Miss.–The Mississippi State Auditor’s office is demanding just under $400,000 back from the former Union County Coroner.

The Auditor’s Office began an investigation on Mark Golding at the end of May and determined that he submitted false claims, totaling $276,591.56 to the Union County Board of Supervisors.

The problem for Golding according to investigators is that he never actually did any of the work or investigated any deaths.

“The civil demand issued by my office today represents the initial step to recover funds that were misappropriated,” said State Auditor Pickering.

In addition to submitting false claims, theinformation was reported to the Mississippi Public Employment Retirement System and it inflated his future benefits.

The auditor’s office is demanding that money from PERS back as well to a total of $398,418.
