State Farm Appeals Katrina Whistleblower Case

JACKSON, Miss. – State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. has appealed their order to pay $3 million legal fees and damages after a jury found the insurance company guilty of defrauding the government.

The lawsuit was filed in 2006 by Cori and Kerri Rigspy of Oceans Springs while they were working for a contractor in Alabama that was hired by State Farm. They claimed that the insurance company tried to blame damages caused by wind on the storm surge which would have been covered by federal flood insurance.

Arguments are scheduled February 5th at the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of appeals in New Orleans.
