State Revenue Collections Better Than Expected

JACKSON, Miss.–The State of Mississippi collected more in tax money than expected for fiscal year 2013. The surplus was around $300 million.

Revenue collections had been expected at about $4.8 billion, but ended up coming in at just over $5.1 billion.

What will happen to the money will be decided at a Joint Legislative Budget Committee hearing later in the year.

Governor Bryant told media Tuesday that the collections data points to a growing Mississippi economy.
