Super Bowl Hero Malcolm Butler to be Honored in His Hometown, Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The City of Vicksburg is planning to honor their own hometown and Super Bowl XLIX hero, Malcolm Butler later this month with a parade and key to the city.

Butler, a Vicksburg High School graduate, plays defensive back for the New England Patriots.  He was thrust into the national spotlight after he intercepted a pass at the 1-yard line with less than 30 seconds remaining in this year’s Super Bowl to help the Patriots clinch a 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Since that game, Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs said he had received numerous request to do something special to honor Butler.  The city decided on a February 21 parade, which will end at the Vicksburg Convention Center, where Flaggs will give Butler the key to the city.
