Taking Over $20,000: Caregiver Charged With Taking Money From a Vulnerable Person

MARION COUNTY, Miss.–Be sure you know and can trust the person you choose to take care of elderly or vulnerable family members. It’s a lesson learned the hard way for a Marion County family out $20,000. The caregiver was locked up this week.

Thurman Kerry Lucas, 38, of Foxworth was arrested by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department after he was indicted by the Marion County Grand Jury on one count exploitation of a vulnerable person.  The indictment says that Lucas, while acting as a caregiver, used over $20,000 of the victim’s money for his own personal needs, said a news release from the attorney general’s office.

If Lucas is convicted, he could get 10 years in jail. Bail is $20,000.
