Tate County teen dies in car crash

A high school student died following a car crash over the weekend in North Mississippi.

17-year-old Allyson Owens was a passenger in a car along with three others when the car crashed around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday on Bowmantown Road in the Coldwater area.

Owens died as a result of the single-car crash, while the other 2 passengers and the driver were taken to local hospitals. The condition of the other teenaged individuals is unknown at this time, as is the cause of the crash.

Owens was a student at Independence High School, and following her death, the school posted the following message.

Students at the school wore purple yesterday and released balloons in Owens’ honor.
