The W installs first graduate as President

The Mississippi University for Women has installed its first graduate as President.

Nora Miller was named the 15th President of the W back in September and was recently inaugurated in a ceremony this Friday. Miller graduated in 1983 with degrees in business administration and accounting. She worked at The W since 2001, ultimately serving as Chief Financial Officer and became acting President in March after President Jim Borsig retired.

“Nora Miller understands The W, both from a student’s perspective and as a senior leader at the institution,” said Trustee Shane Hooper, president of the board of trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning. “She appreciates the institution’s rich history, unique mission, and the important role it plays in Mississippi’s public higher education system. She will be an excellent leader for the Mississippi University for Women’s next chapter.”

In her role as senior vice president for administration and chief financial officer at the university, Miller was responsible for the financial and business management of the university, the operation of the physical plant and related support services and the development and implementation of the campus facilities master plan. She participated in the formulation of policies, programs, and budget development and interacted with students, faculty, staff, the Board of Trustees and agencies to the campus. In addition, she served as the legislative liaison for the campus, advocating for the university with state leaders and legislators.

“The inaugural events were a wonderful way to bring the faculty, staff, alumni, student, and community together to celebrate a new presidency and a renewed commitment to our role in meeting the needs of our students, our state, and the regional labor market,” said President Miller. “We are committed to providing the resources that our students need to be successful and partnering with others to provide outreach and contribute to the creative economy. Working together,  this institution  will continue to adapt to meet the challenges and opportunities that the 21st century presents.”

Before being named a senior vice president for administration and chief financial officer, Miller served as vice president for finance and administration for the university for 11 years. She has also served as director of budget and financial analysis and director of internal audit for the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning; director of accounting for Central Alabama Community College; senior auditing accountant for Potter, Bryant & Tate in Birmingham, Alabama and as supervising senior auditing accountant for the Colleges and Universities Division of the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office.
