Update: Lockdown lifted at Florence schools

Update: 

A post from the Rankin County School District states that the lockdown at Florence High School, Florence Elementary and Steens Creek Elementary has been lifted.

Original Report: 

Three schools in Rankin County are on lockdown after a shooting near the campuses.

Kristen Windham, Director of PR with the Rankin County School District, confirmed that Florence High School, Florence Elementary and Steens Creek Elementary are under currently under lockdown.

Multiple reports indicate that shots were fired in a neighborhood across the street from the high school this morning. While Windham could not confirm specifics about the shooting, she did say that no shots were fired at the school.

While there is no timetable on the length of the lockdown, she stated that the buildings are secure with a heavy police presence.
