Toddler Dies from Severe Burns and Abuse; Mother and Boyfriend Charged

JACKSON, Miss.- A toddler has died after sustaining severe burns and abuse.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart confirmed Elijah McGee died about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The 23-month-old was found unresponsive by the Department of Human Services in Jackson Wednesday.

The mother, 21-year-old Dymond Clement is charged with felony child neglect and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Quenten Johnson is charged with felony child abuse. Police said charges are expected to be upgraded.

Clement has another child, a 6-year-old, who is now in DHS custody, police said.

They were denied bond in a court hearing Friday.
