Toddlers killed in Greenville fire, parents face charges

GREENVILLE, Miss.- After two toddlers pass away in a Greenville house fire, the parents are facing charges.

The mother is already in police custody, and police have been looking for the father until now.

34-year-old Jennifer York was arrested and made her first appearance in court on Thursday. She is charged with manslaughter-culpable negligence in the deaths of her children. The toddlers were aged 1 and 3.

24-year-old DeWayne Turner turned himself into police on Friday, for the same charges. He had not been seen since police questioned him Wednesday.

Family members identified the two kids as Damiya and Yazzuiqe Turner. Both died shortly after midnight on Wednesday after being found in a rear bedroom.

Six children were in the home at the time of the fire. The 14, 12, 8, and 4-year-old were able to escape.

The parents were not home at the time of the fire and there was no gas or electricity turned on. The official cause of the fire is still under investigation but candles were placed throughout the home for light.
