Two Mississippi Fishing Records Broken

Two Mississippi state fishing records have been broken.

Last weekend, Tommy Ware of Ocean springs hooked a 3 pound, 10 ounce rainbow trout at a private pond in Kemper County. The fish weighed about a pound larger than the last state record rainbow trout at 2 pounds, 15 ounces. The Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks confirmed the weight to put it on the books.

Also, a new state record was set for the largest amberjack. Don Wheeler of Laurel caught the fish in the Gulf of Mexico. The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources weighed the fish at 126 pounds. That’s about 2 pounds more for the last record amberjack that was set in 2012. Wheeler told WLOX he fought the thing for about 30 minutes before pulling it on board.
