Two women and a baby targeted in Jackson drive-by shooting

Two women and a baby were inside a vehicle that was hit by gunfire during a drive-by shooting in Jackson on Thursday afternoon. The Jackson Police Department is investigating the shooting that occurred on Welota Dr. near Boling St.

The number of suspects is currently unknown, the JPD says that a preliminary investigation shows that suspect(s) in a red late model Toyota Camry fired several shots at a vehicle parked in the yard of a residence on Welota Dr. A 27-year-old woman sustained at least a single gunshot wound to the lower back.

She was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and was rushed into surgery. Her condition is unknown at this time. The other woman and the baby who were also in the vehicle were unharmed. The home which was near the car was hit by gunfire, and while the house was occupied, no injuries were reported.

The suspect(s) fled the scene in the vehicle after the shooting. The motive for this incident is unclear at this time.
