TeleSouth Communications Inc

JACKSON- The head and body have been identified as belonging to Jeremy Jerome Jackson, 30.

The Jackson Police Department confirmed the identity Monday.

Jackson’s head was left on the front steps of 1536 Deer Park St. Chief Vance said it is very hard to say if this act was a form of intimidation at this time.

Later in the afternoon on Saturday, his body was found burned in a field in Jackson.

Jackson Police have reached out to federal partners to assist in the investigation.

“I wanted to assure the citizens of this city that we are going to leave no stone, no leaf unturned, until we find out who is responsible for this heinous crime. The citizens of this city deserve much better than what we saw this weekend,” said Chief Vance. “People are wondering what in the world has happened to Jackson Mississippi and it is up to us to restore the confidence of the people that live here.”

Chief Vance said at this time the crime seems to be targeted and they do not see cause for alarm to the general public.

Coroner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said the first priority was to determine if the torso and the head are from the same person. They had to examine the cut patterns and the conditions of the bones left on the remains of both pieces. There has been no determination of what was used to sever the head but she hopes to have that information within the week.

JPD is working closely with the FBI, DEA, and Attorney General’s office in the case.

Law enforcement are asking the public for any information that might help assist in the case.
