UPDATE: Memorial planned for three kids killed in crash

LUCEDALE- The Mississippi State Highway Patrol picked up the man they believe is responsible for leaving the scene after a fatal crash that killed three children.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol arrested 23-year-old Jesse Edward Dickerson on four counts of leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death.

Three children were killed in the accident, 16-year-old Spencer Havard, 9-year-old Terra Dixon and 7-year-old Sierra Jean Dixon. Havard died at the scene, both of the Dixon girls died later at the hospital. The George County School District will be holding a memorial service for them Tuesday night at 7:30 at Central Elementary School.

The wreck happened Saturday afternoon before 4:00 p.m. Lucedale officials said they tried to pull over a green 2003 Kia Optima that was headed east on Highway 198 but ended the pursuit when the vehicle left city limits.

Once the car was out of city limits, and police backed off, that’s when the crash happened. Witnesses told police Dickerson was hurt but left the vehicle and ran into the woods nearby. He left six other passengers in the vehicle.

Dickerson is being held at the George County jail on a $1 million bond.
