Veteran Swims Length of Mississippi River to Honor Gold Star Families

VICKSBURG, Miss.- After fighting on the battlefield one man is honoring fallen soldiers by swimming the Might Mississippi.

In honor of his fallen comrades and their families, Chris ring, 28, a former Navy Combat Veteran will swim down the Mississippi River. He is honoring Gold star Families which are families that have lost loved ones during their service to their country.

He told WJTV that there is nothing better than honoring fallen heroes and supporting the families they left behind. His goal is to raise awareness to the care and treatment of fallen heroes and the sacrifices that these men and women and their families have made. Ring served in the Navy for 10 years.

Ring started the swim on June 6th, which is also D-Day and is expected to complete it by December 4th, 2015. He has roughly 480 miles to go.
