A child in Vicksburg is recovering after being hit by a car while getting off of the school bus.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 7-year-old girl was crossing the street after being properly guided by her bus driver, but a driver in the southbound lane was not paying attention and ran the girl over.

The child suffered from a fracture to her mouth and jaw area, and a lung contusion but is expected to make a full recovery after surgery.

The driver, 30-year-old Ditanun Simpson was arrested on the spot and charged with reckless driving and driving without a license; both misdemeanor charges. The Vicksburg PD is continuing their investigation and are looking to upgrade the charges to a felony.
