Vietnam moving wall visits Mississippi

The Moving Vietnam wall will be on display in Flora this week.

There are 58,320 names on the wall and Mississippians are encouraged to visit the replica to honor loved ones whose names are engraved on it.

The wall will be open to visitors 24 hours a day until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th. Flora is the only stop the traveling wall will be making Mississippi and it will be set up behind the Post Office in the Flora Baptist Church parking lot.

“It’s a very simplistic design,” said Vietnam Veteran Dr. Sid Bondurant. “All Vietnam casualties are listed on the wall. They have had to add seven names to it in the last year. As they discover and recover bodies from Vietnam their names are added to it in honor of their ultimate sacrifice.”

Thousands of visitors are expected to visit the wall during its time in the state.

The moving wall is 80% of the size of the Washington, DC Vietnam Veterans Memorial and has been touring the country for more than 30 years.
