Voter reform for Mississippi

MERIDIAN, Miss.- Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann is getting serious about changes in voter registration across the state.

The presidential primaries are just around the corner and lawmakers in Mississippi are trying to change the way residents register to vote in order for more people to do so.

Hosemann says that the new proposals have done away with the election code of 1890 and it now fits better with the 21st century. One of those changes includes online registration. Online registration saves tax payers a lot of money and keeps the records correct.

Hosemann says the upgrade in technology is also a great way to get younger voters involved. Hearings for the changes should occur within the next three weeks he tells WTOK.
