Watch out for IRS scam calls

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department wants you to be aware of Internal Revenue Service (IRS) scam calls that are happening.

They have received multiple reports of individuals making calls claiming to be the IRS. The caller will claim there is money owed, and if not paid, arrests will be made.

They said the IRS will not call you with those types of threats and their best advice is to hang up the phone.

“Never, NEVER,  give personal information over the phone and do not call back any number this caller asks you to call,” stated the Jones County Sheriff’s Department on their Facebook page.

You can report these scams to the Federal Trade Commission at (877)382-4357.
