Water Warning; Areas of Gulfport, Biloxi Gulf Waters Could Lead to Illness says MDEQ

BILOXI, Miss– The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has issued a water contact warning for parts of Gulfport and Biloxi beach.

Water samples taken Friday morning came back with traces of bacteria that could be harmful to people.The beaches are not closed, but contact with the water could lead to a higher risk of infection and illness. MDEQ warns that swimming in the Gulf during this times should be avoided.  The bad water samples came back from Station 10B East Courthouse Road Beach in Gulfport from Courthouse Road east to Tegarden Road, and Station 12B Biloxi East Central Beach ? from St. Peter Street east to Dukate Street.

Local authorities are also warning against swimming due to heavy rainfall.
