WASHINGTON, D.C.– One of Mississippi’s U.S representatives Bennie Thompson (D-MS) is not happy about the latest reports from the Department of Homeland Security.
A report from the Office of Inspector General shows that inspections were still missing out on weapons that were being smuggled onto airplanes by undercover investigators. Thompson, Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, says he’s concerned about the results of the investigation.
“I am extremely concerned with TSA’s ability to prevent weapons from getting through security and onto planes,” says Thompson, “The reported test results are alarming and expose problems with multiple layers of security.”
Thompson does say that he’s pleased with how quickly the results of the investigation came out, but he’s worried about what happens from this point forward.
Representative Thompson spoke of another threat to the United States and to Mississippi—the beginning of hurricane season.
“We should remind ourselves that each one of us has an important role to play in ensuring that our families and communities are prepared for what may come before, during, and after a potential storm,” says Thompson, “Hurricane Katrina taught us that we cannot be complacent. We must remain vigilant.”
Hurricane season started June 1.
