Weekly rundown: Update on Natchez child abuse case, Mississippi’s safety plan, weather for the weekend,

Jackson, Miss– Here are this week’s top stories, plus what to look for this weekend, all in one place.

  • The mother and the aunt of a 23 month-old Natchez child have been charged with child abuse. Shalae Lewis claimed she was carrying trash down the stairs when her daughter fell, but police aren’t so sure that’s the case, given the severity of the little girl’s injuries. She was having seizures, bleeding on the brain, and a fractured skull when she arrived at the hospital.
  • Terrorism seems like something a bigger city somewhere else would have to deal with, but recent violence has proven that terrorism could happen anywhere. Mississippi Homeland Security officials say they are prepared, and the plan includes getting all law enforcement–local, state, and federal–working together.
  • The fall weather will be perfect this weekend for high school football and college football. News Mississippi will follow the games for you.
