HINDS COUNTY, MISS– Another person has gotten sick with West Nile Virus, bringing the total to 28 for Mississippi so far.
This last person to get the virus is from Hinds County. So far, Adams, Attala, Covington, Forrest, Hinds, Lauderdale, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Rankin, Simpson, Washington, and Yazoo counties. In Attala County, one person has died from West Nile this year.
Last year 43 people were diagnosed, and 7 of those died.
The Mississippi Department of Health says that to protect yourself from West Nile Virus, avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. You can do that by wearing loose, light-colored clothing, spraying on DEET before you leave the house, and clearing any standing water from around your home.
