In July, 16 lives were lost when a military plane headed to Arizona for training crashed in Mississippi. Among those lost in the crash was Cassie Lohrey’s husband Navy Corpsman 1st Class Ryan Lohrey. Three weeks later, Cassie learned that she was pregnant with the couple’s third child.

Now, several months into her pregnancy, Cassie planned on revealing the gender of the couple’s baby to family and friends, but word spread and 16 service men and women showed up to Lohrey’s home in Hampstead, N.C on Veterans Day to give Cassie a gender reveal she’ll never forget.

Pink confetti rained down as it was revealed that Cassie and Ryan’s child will be a baby girl. Photographer Saralyn Johnson was asked to document the reveal through videos and photos. In a Facebook post, she detailed the emotion of the scene.

“What an epic gender reveal! It was very evident to me what a special man Ryan was and how many lives he had touched. Her home is filled with pictures of her and Ryan and I have no doubt that this sweet baby girl will know just how much her Daddy loves her, even from Heaven.”

Ryan was an Indiana native and a football star at his Shenandoah High School where he graduated from in 2015. Ryan and Cassie were married just a month prior to the crash. Ryan was 30-years old at the time of his death.
