Woman Arrested for Child Neglect Following Indictment

FORREST COUNTY, Miss.- After her 6-month-old baby died back in August of 2013, Julie Pittman appeared before the grand jury on Monday. She was arrested and is now behind bars on a charge of child neglect.

WDAM-TV reports that the indictment read that Pittman “on August 12, 2013, did intentionally, knowingly or recklessly commit any act or omit the performance of any duty in which said act or omission contributed to or tended to constitute to the neglect of a child, Aiden Pittman, who was six months old at the time.”

Authorities responded to a call at their home on August 12, 2013. Before they could get there, they got the call that the baby was dead.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem said that the child was found in the bedroom and pronounced dead at the scene.

She also said that the cause of death was “positional asphyxia with contributory cause of death an unsafe environment.”
