Woman Killed After Mississippi Highway Patrol Car Strikes Her Vehicle

HATTIESBURG, Miss.- An 81-year-old Hattiesburg woman was killed after her car was hit by a Mississippi Highway Patrol vehicle from behind.

Police said the crash happened Monday afternoon on U.S. 49 Highway North.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict told The Hattiesburg American Thelma R. Gill died at the scene after the vehicle she was driving was struck from the rear by a Mississippi Highway Patrol car.

Police say the trooper, whose name has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries and stayed overnight for observation.

The accident is currently under investigation.
