Woman Marries the Man Who Shot Her, Grand Jury to Hear the Case Again

IUKA, Miss.–At first Francine Angel was mad about being shot in the left ear. She told police that Herbert Bennett did it and he was arrested. The grand jury in Tishamingo County indicted the 58-year-old on attempted murder charges in February 2014.

But what happened after that has left the prosecutors, the grand jury and the two people involved with a legal dilemma.

Angel, 49, married Bennett. And she changed her story. She doesn’t want to see her husband go to jail.

WTVA reports that prosecutors have said they will not prosecute Bennett on the indictment from last year. Since the story is different now, the case will have to go back to the grand jury.

They can reaffirm the first indictment, make a new indictment or dismiss and end the happy couple’s legal problems.

Their decision will be based on current and past evidence.
