Woman Runs Over and Kills Friend While Under the Influence

ADAMS COUNTY, Miss.- A woman was under the influence while behind the wheel when she ran over her friend killing him.

Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies told WDAM around 3 a.m. Monday morning 25-year-old Alyssa Brooke Standeford was parking her vehicle at a home on Cloverdale Road when she hit 25-year-old Kory DeWitt.

He had been riding with Standeford when he parked the car on the side of the road so he could get out to grab some shoes. Standeford told deputies she got behind the wheel to move the car and ran over him.

Standeford claims she didn’t see Dewitt, but he was in front of the car when she ran over him. Standeford’s blood was tested and results confirmed she was under the influence of Xanax and Lorcet.

The Adams County woman is in jail charged with DUI culpable negligence manslaughter and driving with a suspended license. She’s being held on a $75,000 bond. No court date has been set yet.
