2nd Baby Treated for HIV, Similar to Mississippi Baby

JACKSON, Miss. – The dream of treating HIV became a reality last year for a Mississippi baby. UMMC’s Dr. Hannah Gay was part of the team of doctors that took part in that treatment.

This week at the Conference for Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Boston, it was announced that a baby girl from Los Angeles was treated similarly and may possibly be cured. For now, treatment cannot be one hundred percent confirmed since the infant is still on antiviral medications.

The baby cured from Mississippi is now three years old and is still HIV free.
