A Natchez mother accused of abusing a 23-month old child has finally met her sentencing.

Shalae Lewis plead guilty to felony child abuse after her baby girl was flown from Natchez to Batson’s children’s hospital in September. The little girl was suffering from a cracked skull, broken ribs, bleeding on the brain and burn marks on her legs.

Lewis told investigators the baby had fallen down some stairs.

She was given 30 years behind bars.

The girl’s aunt, Tira Davis, is also charged in the crime. Davis awaits her trial for charges involving contributing to the delinquency of neglect of child abuse. Officials say Davis witnessed the abuse but never reported it.
