The U.S. Senate Election: Blogger Kelly Indicted on Burglary Charges, Supreme Court Today

MADISON, Miss.–The U.S. Senate Election is about one month away and the ghosts of what happened this summer still haunt Mississippi. Blogger Clayton Kelly, the man accused of breaking into Rose Cochran’s room at a Madison nursing home and snapping her picture and taking video, has been indicted on burglary charges by a Madison County Grand Jury.

Meanwhile, arguments are set for today between state Sen. Chris McDaniel and Sen. Thad Cochran’s camp in the state’s highest court.

The Mississippi Supreme Court is giving each side a half hour, starting at 10 o’clock, to make their arguments. McDaniel wants the results of the run-off election on June 23 thrown out. He believes he should be declared the winner of the Republican nomination because of voter irregularities.

His case was thrown out of a Jones County court earlier because the waited too late to file a challenge, said Judge Hollis McGehee.

Cochrans side is expected to argue that votes cast for Cochran by Democrats were not illegal under Mississippi law. Ballots have already been sent out to military personnel with Cochran as the candidate.

Kelly, who pleaded not guilty, and could get up to 55 years in prison, was previously arrested in the photo scandal, but on charges of exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
