First in Mississippi; Collaboratory Makes Medicine and Economic Driver

CANTON, Miss– The Mississippi Bio-Medical Business Collaboratory was unveiled Friday in Canton and it ushers in the beginning of economic growth in Mississippi.

“This is the day that healthcare as an economic driver became a reality in Mississippi,” says Governor Phil Bryant at the announcement event Friday.

The Collaboratory serves as the home of many new businesses: Telehealth One, APS, Global Training Institute, ThinkAnew, Simple Strokes Therapy, Senior Benefits Resource Center, Innovate, and Bradley Arant Boult Cummings. All of these serve multiple purposes ranging from medical technology support, senior care, child therapy, and medical education.

The Global Training Institute branch at the Collaboratory will serve as simulated training for doctors and nurses.

“Every new doctor brings two million dollars into the community,” says Governor Phil Bryant, “so it didn’t take long to do the math and see healthcare as an economic driver for the state.”

So far 56 new jobs have been added, but once the new facility is complete and the businesses start to expand, hundreds of jobs will become available.
