Mississippi – Another round of severe weather is expected to hit Mississippi both Friday and Saturday nights.
Mike Edmundson is with the National Weather Service and said the systems moving in will have the capabilities to produce golf ball size hail, damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph and the possibility of tornadoes.
Edmonson expects the storm to hit below Interstate 20 before midnight. It will then move east and be out of the state by Saturday morning.
“It should move in to the southwest portions of Natchez, by midnight. And then progress eastward across the area overnight and exit. It should be gone by 9 a.m. from the Hattiesburg, Meridian area,” said Edmonson.
Those north of I-20 and south of Highway 82 aren’t expected to experience the worst of the storm, Friday into Saturday, but could still get quarter size hale and winds up to 60 mph.
Saturday night, the second round of weekend storms are expected to hit. This system is most likely to impact the the northern parts of Mississippi.
“There will be an enhanced chance for severe thunderstorms capable of 60 mph wind and again, large hail the size of golf balls, maybe a few even greater than that,” said Edmonson.
Those south of I-20 should also expect to see thunderstorms, Saturday night. The NWS is reminding those in south Mississippi that flooding will continue to be a possibility given the amount of expected rainfall over the weekend.
