The Death of Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman: Drug Abuse Help in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss.- 46 year old Philip Seymour Hoffman was found on the bathroom floor of his New York apartment unresponsive without a heartbeat Sunday. Investigators found 50 envelopes stamped with “Ace of Spades” and “Ace of Hearts” inside his home. This drug usually contains a lethal mix of heroin laced with fentanyl, an opiate used to help with pain of cancer patients. They also found multiple used syringes and other bags with white powder.

Actors aren’t the only people struggling with the drug addiction. Nearly 186,000 people suffer from drug or alcohol abuse in Mississippi alone according to Mississippi Department of Mental Health Director Jerri Avery.
