African American Military Museum to Honor Women Veterans for Black History Month Celebrations

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – This year the African American Military Museum will be honoring women veterans as part of their Black History month celebrations.

This Thursday, January 29, the museum will host a kick-off party for women veterans from the Pine Belt area. There will be a reception and the women who served will receive a certificate as a token of appreciation for their service.

Starting February 6 the museum will screen a documentary each Friday, highlighting the contributions of African Americans in the military. Films begin at 10:45 and are one hour and 15 minutes each.

On the Feb. 14 the museum will host its annual “Valentine’s for Veterans” event where people who bring in a military ID will receive a special treat.

The final event will be held on Feb. 20 and will feature the exhibit opening for “Continuing the Legacy: African American Women United in Military Service”. The exhibit opening begins at 10:00 AM and the exhibit itself will run through March in celebration of Women’s History Month.
