Mississippians may be able to transport alcohol through Dry counties soon. The bill passed both the House and the Senate and will soon head to the Governor’s Desk.
Representative Richard Bennett, author of the bill said that right now if someone has a six-pack of beer or a bottle of whiskey in their car and they go through a dry county, they can be pulled over, given a ticket and have the alcohol confiscated.
Bennett added that the new law would not allow people to transport alcohol with a broken seal in a dry county.
“Many people don’t know what counties are dry and what counties are wet,” Bennett said. “I just don’t think it’s fair.”
