Amtrak vs. Car Puts Two People in the Hospital

Hazlehurst, MISS– An Amtrak train crashed into a car on the tracks in Copiah County and now two people are in the hospital. The Amtrak train was passing through town when two men were hit around 5 o’clock on Tuesday. Police say the driver, 25 year-old Cyrus Reese was taken to Hardy Wilson Hospital in Hazlehurst. His passenger, 28 year-old Clint Robertson had to be flown to University Medical Center. Police tell WJTV that the jaws of life were needed to get Robertson out of the car.

There are currently no guardrails or lights at the crossing, just the one railroad crossing sign.

Witnesses say they heard the whistle blowing and went to investigate and when they arrived, Reese was on the ground. Robertson was pinned in the car and unconscious.
