Animals killed at Jackson Zoo

JACKSON, Miss.- Reports of several animals killed at the Jackson Zoo Friday morning.

Officials say that feral dogs killed 6 animals residing at the zoo. One addra gazelle and five springbok were found dead by the zoo staff. These animals were located in the African Savannah area exhibit.

Zoo workers called animal control who were able to catch all but one of the five dogs who they believe are responsible for the killings. Zoo officials say they are devastated at this loss. Zoo staff work very hard to make sure these animals are taken care of, so to see them die in this way is tragic, Officials told WAPT.

The zoo said that their 24-hour security watch has called animal control eight times in the last five months for sightings of dogs around the property.

They do not know yet how the feral dogs got into the park or the exhibits.
