Inmate killed at Parchman

An inmate at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman was stabbed Friday morning. 

It was done by another inmate and 43-year-old Carlos Jack was pronounced dead at the prison hospital shortly after 10 a.m.The attack a happened about an hour before.

The main suspect in the death is 35-year-old Myran Shanks. Authorities found a homemade shank. Shank has been in prison since 1998 with a 30-year-sentence for burglary, aggravated assault, and grand larceny in Tallahatchie County. He also has an armed robbery charge in Panola county, reports WJTV.

Jacks was serving time for armed robbery in Lowndes County. He was serving a 25 year sentence and was convicted in 2002. officials do not believe any other inmates were involved in the incident.

The prison is currently on lock down and no visitations will be allowed this weekend. Commissary privileges have been suspended till further notice.
